    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Apprentice hairdresser required to work in a busy hair salon in Wellingborough, Northampton.

The role will involve:

  • Rreception duties including greeting clients and answering the telephone
  • Tea and coffee making
  • Rinsing colour
  • Shampooing
  • General cleaning

The main focus will be keeping the customers happy so they re-book and training to become a qualified stylist.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good communication and social skills with a fantastic telephone manner
  • Creative with a very keen interest in becoming a hairdresser
  • Some previous experience would be preferred

Personal qualities

An interest in a career in hairdressing and an interest in fashion are essential.
Hardworking, honest, reliable, good timekeeper, motivated and willing to work as part of a team.

Qualifications required

GCSE grade D or above in Maths & English (or equivalent)

Future prospects

Once qualified may be able to apply to become a stylist.
