This role is for someone new to the Tree Surgery profession; starting as a groundsman with a wish to progress up through the company as they learn and we grow.
The successful candidate will have common sense and initially learn to coordinate the work environment from the ground.
Gaining an understanding about trees growth, health, structure and potential dangers. Learning to use a chainsaw, climb and be able rescue others!
 


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Must be reliable, hardworking and have an interest in preserving trees.
  • An interest in Biology, trees and nature would be preferable.
  • Transferable skills would be ideal - someone who has played with engines, gears, has learnt to drive etc.

Personal qualities

  • A strong, determined character.
  • Someone physically able to cope with the demands of the job.
  • Someone who can communicate with both colleagues and clients, and work successfully as part of a team.

Qualifications required

You will need a minimum of two GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-D, including English and maths or successful completion on a Level 1 Horticulture programme.

Future prospects

The long term aim is to have a competent groundsman, who is able to climb, safely use a chainsaw and uses their intiative to work within a whole range of scenarios.
We fully intend for the apprentice to become so much part of the team that on completion of their apprenticeship - they are skilled and enthused to be permanently employed and part of the team. Ready to guide the next apprentice through the role.

Things to consider

Tree surgery is not going to make you millions.

Safety is paramount - the machines you use with us can kill. You will be responsible for your own and others safety.

We work whatever the weather so you will need to be prepared. We live in the UK - you will need waterproof clothes; warm layers most of the year.

Heritage Arboriculture is a small family run Tree Surgery Company. Owned and operated by Neil Smith. Neil has 13 years of experience as a Tree Surgeon and Arborist, and is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist and Member.

We have worked at some of the most prestigious locations in the country, on some of our most ancient trees. This has instilled a desire to produce only the highest standard of workmanship. We offer a professional and highly competent variety of trees services based on the requirements of the customer and, most importantly, the health of their tree stock.
As a result, a huge percentage of our business is from referrals and repeat customers.
