    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

This post is for an apprentice multi activity instructor. The centre delivers a huge range of activities including mountain biking, climbing wall, high ropes course, abseiling, bushcraft, raft building, rifle shooting assault course,  archery, problem solving, and orienteering and much more. This post will also require the candidates to work in an assistant capacity across the site to obtain an all-round knowledge of centre based work.  All staff are expected to take their share of cleaning and maintenance work. Training is given in all areas as part of the position.

Future prospects

Potential to move on to a Trainee Instructor program, other Level 3 qualifications or a full time instructor role. Links with other outdoor providers, centres and clubs will enhance future opportunities.  A range of NGB awards dependent upon individual, However you are likely to gain, GB Archery, NRSA, Rec level 2 First Aid Course and ERCA.

An essential part of working in the outdoor and active leisure industries is taking your own skills development seriously.  This means that successful candidates are usually those who can show a clear commitment to improving their personal skill in activities and working towards coaching awards. A job in the outdoor and active leisure industry is an exciting and rewarding one, but you need to be ready to get totally involved.  This will mean being flexible over hours - we often work evenings or weekends - and flexible over roles - we’re as likely to be on the end of a brush or mop as we are on the end of a rope!   Ask lots of questions to make sure you know what to expect from this varied and exciting opportunity.

The Centre is open to all Youth, Adult and School groups, whether it be for an activity day or a full week of fully catered adventure. Highly experienced staff are always on hand to assist through the design, booking and delivery of a programme.
