Apprenticeship in Pharmacy is offered at a small independent village pharmacy. The training would provide the suitable candidate with the skills and knowledge required to work in a dispensary. The programme offered meets the GPhC minimum training requirements for Dispensing Assistants / Pharmacy Assistants. We use the renowned Buttercups Apprenticeship Training Programme and are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hard working individual.

The Apprenticeship programme consists of the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF), Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (NVQ)(QCF), Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English and Employee Rights and Responsibilities Workbook.

Duties would include:

  • Serving customers
  • Receiving and storing pharmaceutical stock
  • Ordering stock
  • Checking expiry dates
  • Assisting as needed in the shop

Future prospects

The apprenticeship would enable the candidate to work as a Dispensing Assistant / Pharmacy Assistant, with the option of eventually progress to Pharmacy Technician and possibly even Accuracy Checking Technician in the future. These roles are frequently sought after, with options to work in a variety of healthcare settings such as community pharmacies or hospital pharmacies.

Things to consider

The role requires liaising with the general public and other healthcare professionals so strong social skills are important. The hours would mainly be 9am-6pm with an hour lunch. The role also involves working every other Saturday for half day (9-1). Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
