    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

    Should only include daytime hours whilst training, but there are 3 possible shift patterns. 07.30-14.30, 14.30-21.00 and 20.30-08.30.

Working within a friendly team supporting the staff and the elderly on a daily basis.

You will need to show ability to develop excellent communication and relationships with the residents, their families, and staff.

You will assist in caring for the residents on a daily basis, and their general well-being. Encouraging independence and recording notes for care plans.

You will conduct basic domestic duties as is it essential to work as part of a team and ensure both staff and the residents are in a clean and safe environment at all times.

You will be aware of security measures and the safe guarding policy. 

You will be trained gradually and will be fully supported, working alongside a fully qualified carer.

Applicants must be over 18, as this age restriction is a legal requirement for conducting personal care with vulnerable adults.

Desired skills

Absolutely must have a passion to learn and care for the elderly. Good team working and communication skills are also essential.

Personal qualities

Reliable, good attitude, patience, confidentiality, passion for caring for elderly people, tenacity, desire to learn.

Qualifications required

GCSE English and Maths at C or above would be an advantage (or equivalent).

Future prospects

Potential to lead to full time permanent employment for the right candidate.

Things to consider

The Orchards is based in New Waltham. You must reliably be able to travel to and from work on a daily basis. Due to the nature of this work you will be required to work on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
