The Apprentice will focus day to day on the following tasks: -

  • Assisting in the design, production and distribution of marketing and publicity materials relevant to the promotion of shows and events at The Hawth and other Parkwood venues as necessary
  • To keep abreast of new technology and operating systems related to his/her range of duties and responsibilities including the theatre’s box office system (Spektrix) and its integrated email client (dotmailer) and Adobe products
  • To ensure adequate levels of stock of all printing, publicity and marketing materials etc to ensure the efficient operation of the Sales & Marketing service
  • Working as a member of the Box Office sales team on a (limited) shift work basis
  • To provide short-term cover if required for Box Office/Reception staff
  • To liaise with other service managers within the venue, appropriate Client Officers and service contractors and customers to ensure any sales and marketing issues are overcome as a priority  
  •  To assist in the proactive sales and marketing of the venue in an efficient and environmentally sustainable way to meet both the Company and Client’s objectives in this regard
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required by the General Manager to ensure that the business objectives of the contract are achieved

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience of working in an office/sales role would be desirable but is not essential as training will be available

  • Must have a good level of communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but also on own initiative
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT skills appropriate to the successful fulfilment of the post
  • Must be able to gain acceptance and respect from clients and the teams involved
  • Must be able to build strong relationships with customers, clients and employees

  • Must be able to demonstrate clear identification with all customer requirements

Qualifications required

GCSE passes in English and Mathematics or equivalents. ICT skill/qualifications in use of spreadsheets and word documents are essential. Training will be provided in the use of specialist sales and marketing software.

The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
