    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Are you interested in a career in business administration?

This is an opportunity for a self-motivated person to undertake an Apprenticeship within the Community Learning Disability Team in Adult Social Care.

The Community Learning Disability Team is a front line service consisting of a large social work team who provide support and care services for adults with learning disabilities in East Sussex. The main focus is to support these adults to live independently within the community where possible and ensure they are safeguarded.

You will be learning and training alongside an experienced administration team based at The Bellbrook Centre in Uckfield. You will undertake a recognised Level 2 qualification with a training provider and have a mentor in the work place to support you. You will be trained and supported in a number of roles, including answering phone calls from service users, using databases, organising and taking minutes for meetings and interacting with a variety of different staff roles with the council. The training will give you the knowledge, skills and experience you will need for a future career in administration.

We are the largest employer in East Sussex and one of the largest in the South East, so working within our team will really give you the chance to be exposed to a wide range of work and to gain direct experience of operating within a large, complex organisation.

At the end of your Apprenticeship there will be an opportunity for you to apply for a full-time, permanent Administrative Support Assistant role within the team. Training provider

  • Undertake the apprenticeship training including NVQ in Business Administration, Certificate in Business Administration and Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.
  • Learn how to undertake administrative tasks, such as photocopying, fax transmissions, processing mail, maintaining filing systems, archives and resource libraries and updating information.
  • Learn to use Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Learn to answer the telephone and liaise with staff, clients and other agencies to assist in the delivery of services.
  • Learn to produce simple correspondence and reports from written documents.
  • Learn how to retrieve data from Client Information Data Base.
  • Liaise with staff, clients, and other agencies, to assist operational staff in the delivery of services.
  • Learn to accurately input and process data from databases and spreadsheets.
  • Learn to minute, produce and distribute accurate records of meetings.
  • Learn to administer petty cash, travel, warrants, etc, within departmental standards.
  • Learn to administer financial processes, including collection and distributions of monies and banking, processing invoices, arranging countersignature and payments.
  • Learn to order and maintain stocks of relevant stationery and forms, with the agreement of the Administration Co-ordinator.
