The salon are looking for a friendly, reliable and committed individual who shares their vision and passion for great hair and customer service, keeping up-to-date with the latest trends in hairdressing.

This is an entry level opportunity with both the salon and Truro and Penwith College supporting your progression to become a Level 2 certified Hairdresser.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven candidate with a great work ethic wanting to learn the hairdressing trade first-hand in an industry environment.

You will be supporting and learning from the senior stylists at Public Image, example duties are:

  • Assisting the team and stylists
  • Dealing with queries and appointment bookings efficiently
  • Contributing and working well as part of the friendly team
  • Always giving excellent customer service, including making teas/ coffees for clients
  • Washing hair (use of Envy products)-Brushing hair and maintaining cleanliness of salon
  • Using initiative and reporting any issues to your line manager

-Advise and consult with clients to develop your knowledge and understanding of the important skill of consulting with your clients to determine their ideas and requirements

-Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp to develop your knowledge, understanding and skill for shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp

-Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to take responsibility for improving your performance at work and working well with your colleagues

-Style and finish hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to style hair using blow drying and finger drying techniques

-Set and dress hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to use a range of setting and dressing techniques to achieve a variety of looks

-Cut hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to create a variety of basic looks

-Colour and lighten hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to change the hair colour using semi-permanent, quasi-permanent, permanent and lightening products

-You will learn the ability to colour a full head, regrowth and the creation of highlight and lowlight effects

-Perm and neutralise hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to carry out basic perming and neutralising services to the satisfaction of your client

-Plait and twist hair to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to use plaiting and twisting techniques to achieve a variety of different looks

-Fulfil salon reception duties to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills of welcoming and receiving people entering the salon, handling enquiries, making appointments, dealing with client payments and generally maintaining the reception area.

Other information

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is �3.40 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
