    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage rates are £4.05 an hour for 16 - 17 year olds, £5.60 an hour for 18 - 20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship(usually one day per week).

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to start their career in health and safety. The Apprentice will work closely with other health and safety professionals in the team to build their own knowledge and skills within this field. During the 24 months the Apprentice will be given the opportunity to study for the NEBOSH General and Construction Certificates as well as working towards the Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration which will help to equip them for a career in Health and Safety.

The Apprentice will be given a number of administration based responsibilities such as arranging training, monitoring the team's audit program and processing invoices to help with the day to day operation of the service. The Apprentice will also be involved with health and safety inspections, audits and meetings supported by an advisor to help build their experience within this field.

The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team is made up of 14 professionals including two former Apprentices who have secured permanent positions in the team. The team is within People Services based in the Corporate Resources department, so there will be an opportunity to understand more around how the wider service operates.

  • Current full driving licence including the use of a vehicle for Council business as you will be required to visit other LCC sites after suitable training has been provided

Qualifications required

Education to GCSE standard at grades A-C for a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English and Mathematics.
