As a new apprentice, you will learn to do the following:

  • Working with the Nursery Nurse on planning and preparing activities, to develop all aspects of the child’s individual development in a stimulating atmosphere
  • Implement the daily routine
  • Do observations, assessment, and keep development records on children you're helping to support
  • Communicate with parents/carers and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner and maintain good communications: promote positive relationships and interaction between all adults and children involved in the nursery
  • Ensure parents/carers are always welcome in the nursery
  • Supervision of meals and where appropriate
  • Learn to prepare babies’ bottles
  • Changing children as required
  • Preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the play-rooms and equipment
  • Laundry duties
  • Positive management of children’s behaviour
  • Ensuring children are collected by authorised people only
  • Attend and participate in parent/staff meetings and other meetings as may be relevant. In all day groups these may sometimes be in the evening
  • To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to up hold its standards at all times
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Management Team

Please ensure that you live within close proximity of our location before applying The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
