    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Working week

    30 per week over 4 days out of 7 to include 1 day per week in off-the-job training. Working hours may include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

HQ Theatres & Hospitality (HQT&H), the UK’s second-largest venue operator, is a division of Qdos Entertainment Ltd, one of the largest entertainment Groups in Europe.

HQT&H’s current portfolio of regional theatres and concert halls comprises 12 venues. HQT&H currently manages 18 auditoria on behalf of local authorities, with capacities ranging from a 200 seat arts centre to a 2,400 seated/standing theatre. Last year HQT&H programmed a total of 2,354 shows which attracted attendances of over 1.5 million.

HQT&H’s small, highly professional and dynamic head office team is based in the heart of Covent Garden in central London. The team provides strategic leadership and support to the management and staff who operate our unique portfolio of venues.  Our work environment is fun, fast paced, always busy and very collaborative.

Work location:

You will be based at HQT&H’s central London office and may be required to travel to and work at other HQT&H venues. Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Purpose of the role:

This apprenticeship role provides pivotal support to HQT&H’s senior management team through effective execution of general administration, reception and other office tasks, as well as basic HR administration support.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • At least intermediate level of competency using Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • The ability to communicate across multiple levels with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent written communication skills and a good command of written English.
  • Good numerical skills.
  • Able to accurately note and transcribe meeting minutes (preferable).
  • Excellent prioritising and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work accurately, calmly and effectively in a pressurised work environment, meeting set deadlines.

Personal qualities

  • A strong service focus and a genuine desire to deliver excellent administrative support.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude and a positive, flexible approach to the job role, work colleagues and peers.
  • A presentable, professional and approachable manner which sets an example for others to follow.
  • A willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends and/or Bank Holidays if the job role requires.
  • An enthusiasm and willingness to undertake training, learning, development and assessment relevant to the apprenticeship standard and the job role.
  • An interest in and enthusiasm for live theatre, entertainment and hospitality.

Qualifications required

  • Maths and English GCSE, or equivalent, Grade C or above.
  • Educated to A Level, or equivalent standard, Grade C or above (preferable).
  • A Level, or equivalent, English Grade C or above (preferable).

Future prospects

This role will open up many opportunities within administration roles.

Things to consider

•Previous experience working in a dynamic and busy office environment in a reception or administrative capacity (preferable). •Experience of letter, email and report writing in an accurate, professional and informative manner.
