    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Liaising with customers and suppliers
  • Inputting invoices onto the computer on a daily basis
  • Planning, coordinating and monitoring the receipt, order assembly and dispatch of goods
  • Having a clear understanding of the company’s policies and vision and how the warehouse contributes to these
  • Coordinating the use of automated and computerised systems where necessary 
  • Responding to, and making sure inventories are accurate
  • Planning future capacity requirements 
  • Motivating, organising and encouraging teamwork within the workforce to ensure productivity targets are met or exceeded
  • Visiting customers and suppliers to monitor the quality of service they are receiving 
  • Maintaining standards of Health and Safety, hygiene and security in the work environment, for example, ensuring stock is stored safely
  • Unloading and loading vans
  • Delivering goods and giving excellent customer service
  • Serving on the shop floor – helping customers to choose the right mattresses, and listening to what the customer wants and giving tailored advice
