We are now looking to recruit a Customer Service Apprentice.

Duties include:

  • Dealing with customers face to face, by phone and email
  • Cash handling
  • Order and replenish stock
  • Receive and store stock into the workplace
  • Complete audits of stock
  • Regularly attend training sessions
  • Comply with Health & Safety
  • To undertake basic bicycle repairs (as needed)

As this role is part of a bicycle recycling project, an interest in bikes would be desirable. Additional training in bike maintenance may be available to the successful candidate.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good people skills.
  • Team player - you must be capable of working in a flexible and ever changing environment.
  • Reading and writing skills - you will be dealing with money, prices and products so you need basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Interest and experience in the maintenance and repair of bikes would be desirable.

Personal qualities

  • Presentable - dress and appearance counts.
  • The right attitude - apprentices need to be interested in customer service and show enthusiasm for the retailer and their services and products.

Qualifications required

You will need 4 GCSE (or equivalent) grades A*-D, including English, or a full Level 1 qualification at merit grade with literacy and numeracy at an appropriate level.

Will be discussed at interview.

Things to consider

This role is to work at Bicycle Recycling venues at either Unit 1 Ark Royal House, Winston Churchill Ave, Portsmouth, Hants, PO1 2GF or HMS Nelson, HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, Hants, PO1 3LT or Unit 2 Bus Station, South Street, Gosport, PO12 1EP. It is likely that you will spend your initial 6 months of your Apprenticeship at the Gosport venue, moving to a Portsmouth venue for the rest of your apprenticeship. However, you may be called upon to be flexible to cover for staff shortages or holiday.
