    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The successful apprentice will be expected to run a full column of clients and be confident with level 2 services in hairdressing, such as blow drying, cutting, styling and colouring hair.

They are also expected to work as part of a team and help other stylist set up their work stations and help with the juniors in mantaining the salon's cleaniness and doing reception, which involves answering the phone and booking in appointments as necessary.

You will recieve in house training working towards your level 3 hairdressing, units to include more creative bouncy blow drys, colour correction and creative cutting.  Once every 2-3 weeks you will be visited by an assessor from Heart of England Training to assess all practical skills, do exams, theory and reviews with you.

Future prospects

After achieving level 3 there could be the potential to become a team leader.

Things to consider

To be flexible and arrive at least 15 minutes before your shift starts and you will be expected to leave as part of a team and this can also be 15 minutes after your shift has ended. Working Saturdays are a must.
