    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

West Bromwich Leisure Centre are seeking someone who wants to work within the leisure industry, you must have the right attitude and get up and go. You will be self-motivated, good with people and able to motivate members in achieving their goals.
Shifts include days, evenings and weekends.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • To assist the existing teams in maintaining set standards of service delivery and cleanliness throughout the Centre.
  • To assist in the erecting and dismantling of portable equipment.
  • To ensure the health and safety of customers at all times.
  • To assist customers wherever possible; promote quality customer care at all times, resolve customer service issues where appropriate and promote the Centre and its services to generate interest and new business for the Centre.
  • To assist in the preparation and operation of events and activities.
  • To attend regular staff training sessions as set out in the Centre’s procedures including lifeguard training sessions where appropriate.
  • Once qualified to do so, supervise activities within your designated area of work.
  • To attend the planned tutor session in an organised and prepared manner.  Complete and return all course work within the deadlines as set by the tutor.

In order to be successful and pass the swim test stage of the interview you must be a strong swimmer and be able to:

  • Jump/dive into deep water 
  • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds 
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back 
  • In deep water, tread water for 30 seconds  
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool  
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

You will have to be a confident person with the ability to complete such tasks as:

  • Supervision of pool users
  • Providing pool rescues and first aid
  • Carrying out regular inspections of the Leisure Centre and undertake cleaning to ensure the club maintains the best site presentation possible.
  • To directly interact with all members of the club whether existing or new and ensure you provide a polite and courteous manner.
  • Assist in reception/booking duties and undertake administration duties when necessary.
  • To help actively promote the club to prospective members by following the sales procedure.
  • Setting up of equipment needed

Personal qualities

  • You must be enthusiastic and able to work well in a team.
  • You must be a good swimmer.
  • You Must be 16 Years of age prior to assessment
