Duties of this role:

  • Preparing food including starters and desserts
  • Assisting the chef during service
  • Helping to develop new menu items
  • Help maintain the high standard of kitchen hygiene

Qualifications required

GCSE English and maths Grade C or above or equivalent would be useful but Functional Skills are available in these areas if those grades are not obtained

Future prospects

To lead to being fully in charge of the kitchen. Also there is the possibility of working in London or abroad. This is a great opportunity as Mario our Head Chef enjoys training and has top 5 star hotel experience in this country and South Africa where he cooked for Nelson Mandela, Helmut Kohl and various VIPs creating meals and puddings for 1,500 guests at a wine estate lunch. In this country he has been a chef at private house exclusive dinner parties for various aristocratic families on their estates and has many great contacts for extra experiences in catering.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
