Are you interested in learning how cars work? If your passion is for cars and motor vehicle technology then this apprenticeship is for you. If successful, you will be employed by one of the many Toyota Retail Centres located all around the UK.

  • Once trained as a Toyota Technician you will be expected to carry out a wide variety of tasks from routine maintenance to full overhaul.
  • You will work with some of the very latest hi-tech diagnostic equipment and motor vehicle technology in the industry including our cutting edge Hybrid technology.
  • Your apprenticeship - Candidates will undertake an apprenticeship in Light Vehicle and Maintenance and Repair, the overall programme will last three years.
  • During this time you will attend block release training at our state of the art training centre in Derby for 23 weeks. For the remaining weeks you will be working full time in one of Toyota's network of Retail Centres. 


  • Routine maintenance.
  • Sorting out brake pads, discs, tyres, suspensions.
  • Starting and changing electrics (diagnostics).
  • Fuel ignition - checking/changing.
  • Oil filter - checking/changing.

Desired skills

  • A Practical approach – You’ll demonstrate a keen interest in how things work, showing a curiosity to fixing physical problems by applying practical solutions. You may even find yourself taking things apart only to rebuild them again.
  • Commitment – Training to become a Vehicle Technician means driving your own personal goals and taking responsibility for your work. You will demonstrate a positive ‘can do’ attitude and agility when faced with working in a fast paced environment. We’ll give you the tools and the support to enable you to be the best you can be and then it is down to you to take ownership and make it happen.

  • Willingness to learn – We’ll look for ambitious, dynamic and enthusiastic individuals who will be eager to learn, take on board feedback and who want to continuously develop. You’ll be open to seeking out new opportunities to increase understanding and will be able to follow instructions and clearly explain things to others.

Qualifications required

  • Ideally you’ll have achieved GCSE A-C equivalent or new grades 4-9 in Maths and English although this is not mandatory.

Future prospects

Once you have completed your apprenticeship you will be eligible to attend further technical training courses through Toyota's adult training programme. Successful completion of these, along with Toyota's Technician assessments, will provide you with the opportunity to rise to the very top of your game. There are many opportunities to rise through the ranks within a Toyota Retail Centre, it's all down to you and the effort you are willing to put in.
