Providing training, business and promotional support to over 1500 superyacht, marina and commercial boating businesses is no mean feat and British Marine are seeking a dynamic administration apprentice to provide support across a range of key teams to make this happen!

British Marine are responsible for delivering the internationally renowned London and Southampton boat shows as well as ensuring the marine engineers, managers and entrepreneurs of the future gain the training and skills they need to thrive. Quite simply, British Marine  are industry leaders.

Working within the Membership and Services dept. the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop key business administration, customer service, education development and events planning skills to assist training, technical and international teams to deliver quality services to British Marine members.

Key duties:

  • Provide admin support to the Membership and Services teams, including meeting minutes, course bookings and event updates.
  • Handling and distributing member enquiries, updating records via ThankQ members database accordingly.
  • Website content management using Sitecore CMS.
  • Check and upload job vacancies.
  • Booking in flights, accommodation for staff, scheduling and communicating effectively.
  • Liaise with a variety of external stakeholders, from suppliers to course leaders and member business heads.

This is a varied role with excellent career and training progression opportunities for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification in Professional Business Administration Level 2. This apprenticeship is fully funded for the duration of 12 months. Alongside this qualification, full training will be provided in Customer Relations Management and Website Content Management systems.

British Marine is situated just outside Egham centre – 20min walk from Egham station.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Some customer service experience within whatever sector/capacity desired.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (esp Word, Excel and Outlook).

Personal qualities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good team player (examples/evidence of this at interview needed)
  • Enthusiastic individual who is keen to learn and develop
  • Punctual and reliable character
  • An interest in forging a career within project or events management or external/international relations.  

Qualifications required

Maths & Eng GCSE D or above

Future prospects

Progression to BA Level 3 on increased wage with extra responsibility within a chosen path (member training, technical, events or international relations).

Things to consider

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
