This role is for Harris Garrad Academy

In your role as an Advanced Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in the development of positive educational experiences for children with a range of abilities in the school setting. Working with the support of qualified teaching and support staff you will be expected to contribute in the following areas among others:

Support for Pupils 

  • Help with the care and support of pupils;
  • Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups;
  • Be an effective model for pupil behaviour.

Support for the teacher

  • Assist with classroom resources & Lesson Preparation
  • Contribute to the management of pupils' behaviour, both in the classroom and on the playground, as required
  • Provide support for learning activities
  • Support the use of ICT in the classroom
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for pupils and staff
  • Assist in the presentation of display materials
  • Support teaching staff or senior colleagues with routine administration

Support for the school 

  • Monitor effective working relationships with colleagues and parents
  • Contribute to the maintenance of pupil safety and security
  • Review and develop their own professional practice
  • Recognise confidentiality, child protection procedures, Health & Safety, and the policies of the Governing Body
  • Be involved in extra-curricular activities, (e.g. clubs, activities, trips, open days, presentation evenings)
  • Assist with special activities in the school within school hours (e.g. sports days, plays, concerts, open days)

Qualifications required

The preferred candidate will have finished their GCSE or other skills qualifications in English and Maths, though consideration will be given to highly-motivated people willing to achieve a qualification in Functional Skills (English, Maths & ICT) at Levels 1 & 2.

Future prospects

Learners can progress onto a Foundation Degree in Supporting Teaching and Learning and/or assessment against the Higher Level Teaching Assistant professional standards to achieve HLTA status. Level 4 qualifications in a relevant area, the Early Years Sector-Endorsed Foundation Degree, are also open to successful candidates.

This is a term time vacancy however training will take place during the holidays Harris Federation Pay Scales: Aged 16 - 20, 5.60 per hour Aged 21 - 24, 7.05 per hour Aged 25 +, 7.50 per hour The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
