    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

An Apprentice is required to work in a busy salon environment whilst receiving full training in all aspects of hairdressing such as:

  • Consulting with clients.
  • Cutting.
  • Colouring and styling hair.

Duties to include;

  • Working with a range of clients.
  • Carrying out receptionist work and ensuring the salon is kept clean and tidy at all times.

On completion of the apprenticeship the successful candidate will receive the Hair Professional Standard.

  • The successful candidate must be extremely well presented.
  • They must be able to work on their own initiative and be self motivated.
  • They should be a team player and be able to follow instruction.
  • They should have a keen interest in the Hairdressing industry and be willing to work hard.
  • Punctuality and reliability is essential.

  • No formal qualifications required, full training given.

To become a qualified stylist and develop your own client list.

Things to consider

You will be expected to work Saturdays. You will be required to make beverages for clients. You will be required to help maintain salon cleanliness. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
