This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to gain an Apprenticeship with a leading Multinational packaging company.

Key Aspects/Responsibilities:

  • To be grounded in all aspects of printing including print preparation and plate laying as a team member but will involve some lone working.

Print Preparation:

  • To liaise with external ‘Repro Houses’ and the Sales department on reprographics for both the industrial and consumer print markets.
  • To manage ‘job folders’ containing extensive data relevant to individual orders, attention to detail is vital.

Print Support:

  • Colour match whilst monitoring costs, interpret data using spectro and IQC, IFS software to achieve the level of an Ink Technician.

Print Support/Pre-Press:

  • To prepare print plates in advance of print runs and to mount print plates onto print presses, this involves keeping to tight tolerances and following works orders in order to meet customer requirements.

Print Operative:

  • Follow work order instructions using  SAP to ensure that print presses are fully provided with relevant materials eg:  film, inks and cores in order to avoid downtime and scrap.  To achieve a thorough knowledge of 8/10 colour CI flexographic printing.

Additional Projects:

  • Carry out cost saving projects such as:  to increase production capacity, scrap prevention and general improvements.

Positive attitude with motivation and ambition essential.

Qualifications required

GCSE standard to include English, Maths and Science at grades A-D or equivalent Level 1 qualifications.

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to apply for a full time position and progress to higher operator levels.

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution. The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st October 2016 is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship. Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age.
