This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to learn about the aspects of repair and Calibration of electronic and mechanical test equipment. As a company we work to service the needs of our clients by carrying out the tests and repairs.

Keysight engineers, as part of a team, calibrate and repair test equipment related to RF & Microwave, Communications, TV, Temperature, Vibration, Pressure, Torque and Dimensional requirements. All engineering staff are expected to undertake both calibration and repair of test equipment.

As an organisation we have three posts available within this field, applicants will become specialised in the electrical element of testing or become specialised in the repair and maintenance side of the equipment focusing on related to dimensional measurement and torque.

To have manual dexterity (particularly for the mechanical biased post)

Personal qualities

  • To have GCSE Maths, English, IT and Science (Physics/Chemistry) at grades A*-C or equivalent Level 2 qualifications

  • To have a keen interest in electronics and/or metrology (measurements)

The company are looking to invest in the apprentices who successfully secure this post subject to performance through the apprenticeship. Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution. The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st April 2017 is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship. Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age.

Training provider

As part of the apprenticeship the candidate will be working towards a workplace training plan within their organisation as well as working towards the apprenticeship framework components with Telford College. The candidate will achieve the following qualifications:

Year 1 and 2:

  • Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 x year 1
  • BTEC First in Engineering Level 2 x year 2
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English level 1 or 2
