    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The role of this apprenticeship would be to work closely alongside one our MAAT Bookkeepers/Accountants, using computer software to record financial transactions, produce reports and analyse transactions in preparation for Tax Returns.

Software used includes Excel, Word, Sage, and Tax Calc.

Duties to be carried out within our office or on site at clients premises.

Main duties:

  • Provide bookkeeping and payroll services, including recording income and expenditure, matching transactions to bank statements and producing management account reports.
  • Full training will be provided in all elements of the job role including the use of practice management software.
  • Additional duties required would be document filing and assisting with office administration and working as part of a team to ensure the delivery of excellent service to clients.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • IT literate and previous experience of Microsoft office needed.
  • Confident when speaking on the telephone and taking messages.

Team player, personable and keen to learn.

Qualifications required

GCSE A -C in mathematics and English or equivalent.

To become AAT qualified and benefit from continued professional development to expand and widen knowledge within the field of Accountancy.
