    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As an Apprentice Chef with The Wild Goose, you will have the opportunity to commence a structured programme during which time you will develop your skills and knowledge of the industry, learn how to perform to a high standard within a professional kitchen.

The role will include:

  • You will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards.
  • Preparing, cooking and presenting food in line with required standards.
  • Keeping preparation at the right level, making sure that food is served promptly.
  • Monitoring food production to ensure consistent quality and portion size.
  • Stock control.
  • Following relevant hygiene, health & safety guidelines.
  • This provides a fantastic opportunity to grow with the company.

This role would ideally suit young person looking to begin their culinary career. As such, minimal experience is required as full training will be given. However, a good attitude and a keen interest in food are essential. In return for your commitment we offer full training from our experienced chefs, a comfortable working environment within a team, whilst working towards a nationally recognised catering qualification.
