Overall purpose and aims of the job

  • To learn and develop techniques to ensure that machines, equipment and buildings are maintained to a level that optimises machine efficiency, minimises breakdowns and complies with company requirements, health, safety and environmental requirements
  • To work towards a formal maintenance qualification

Key Tasks

  • To carry out maintenance activities according to the maintenance plans
  • To learn to maintain production tools
  • To learn to complete all machine maintenance tasks as per the Preventative Maintenance Plans
  • To assist in identifying and monitoring that the correct level of spare parts are held on site and stored correctly
  • Develop the skills to identify and suggest improvements to prevent machine breakdowns and avoid the reoccurrence of faults and problems
  • To correctly complete all documentation as required such as the tool history record, preventative maintenance plan
  • To record all work completed, parts used and problems encountered
  • Communicate effectively with the Technical Teams, Production Supervisors and Production Planner to ensure maintenance tasks are scheduled so as to cause as little disruption to production as possible
  • To maintain the tooling stores, working areas and office in a tidy, organised and safe way and to clean all tools and equipment used following maintenance work
  • To learn to check all new tools (including transfers) arriving at the company, to ensure that they are ready for production and that no damage/problems are evident
  • To assist the Manufacturing Engineers and Technical supervisors in solving technical or quality-related concerns/problems. 
  • To suggest ways in which productivity might be improved, rejects reduced and down-time minimised

To complete any other reasonable tasks as required by the business.

Flexible in approach to working hours – i.e. working 3 shift rotation pattern Must accept a non-smoking environment Must be willing to participate in training and development activities outside of working hours as well as within working hours i.e. some specific dates on Saturdays, if required

Training provider

As part of the Apprenticeship you will complete an NVQ and functional skills.  You will be required to attend College once a week on Thursdays at our Paget Road Campus in Wolverhampton to complete functional skills classes and tests.
