  • You will learn how to be a skilled manual Plastic Fabricator capable of all types of drape moulding and fabrication work, including working to high standards with Acrylic.
  • You will gain an insight into the problems experienced by the production team.
  • You will learn how interact with people within different departments and how projects are taken from inception through design to the delivery of the customer’s designs.
  • You will learn to operating a variety of equipment including Table Saw, Diamond Polisher, Table Routers, Hand Drilling, CNC Router and Oven Forming.
  • You will learn how to maintain good housekeeping standards.

Qualifications required

Minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C (4) or above including English and Maths.

Other information: The company is located on an industrial estate approximately a 20 minute walk from the town centre. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The heritage of the company dates back to the 1970's when it was founded as a GRP moulder and toolmaker before migrating into thermoforming in the 1980's, with pressure forming and twin sheet moulding being added to the range of services in the late 1980's. The business has been under the current owner management for 7 years and has continued to develop and grow through the recession. Mimtec are members of the local group training association PETA and have a number of apprentices coming through the business further developing our depth of skills and expertise.

Training provider

You will be required to attend one of PETA’s training centres for off-the-job training. The majority of training will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

You will work towards the following qualifications:

  • Improving Own Performance (following the Performing Manufacturing Operations (PMO) Level 2 programme)
  • Diploma in Environmental Awareness (requiring 3 days of release from the workplace)
  • Additionally PETA will deliver functional skills in Maths and English if you do not possess a GCSE pass at grade C (4) or above.
