    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Do you have a passion for painting? Do you have a desire to progress within the industry? If so this could be the ideal role for you. Working all over the East Midlands you will be helping to decorate privately owned properties.

As an apprentice you will often be supporting more experienced colleagues and be expected to learn from them to develop your knowledge.

Day to day duties will include:

  • Preparing the work area and tools for the job,eg:laying out dust sheets.
  • Keeping the work area tidy during painting and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Cutting in to the ceiling.
  • Using a roller to apply paint to the walls.
  • Glossing and priming walls.
  • In and outdoor work.

  • It is ideal that the candidate has some paint and decorating experience and worked with water based paints.

  • Level 2 NVQ in Painting & Decorating.
  • Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating (delivered in college via a day release course).
  • Level 1 Functional skills in English and Maths if required.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 18 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. * Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation. * * Please note if the successful applicant is found prior to the closing date the vacancy maybe withdrawn early.* This apprenticeship includes a day release each week to Beeston College.
