As a Level 2 Apprentice, you will be expected to support and assist other members of the team in the completion of their duties. Your day to day duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding and putting into practice the care and education of each individual child
  • Supporting the development of childcare
  • Supporting the smooth running of nursery/childcare provision
  • Helping deliver a balanced programme of activies and experiences for all children

The nursery is a 5 minute walk from the St Albans City Station.

You will be paid the National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage (£3.50) for 30 hours a week and then the National Minimum Wage appropriate to your age group for the other 10 hours e.g:

16-18's = £145.50 a week

18-20's = £161 a week

This position is subject to a clear DBS check.

You must have good communication skills and be keen to develop new skills within a childcare setting.

Personal qualities

You must have a passion for childcare and be of smart appearance. You must be self motivated with a can-do, positive attitude to understand the needs of children and their parents. You must be trustworthy and reliable.

Qualifications required

No qualifications are required as full training is given throughout the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

There may be an opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 apprenticeship upon successful completion of the Level 2.

Things to consider

From 1st of April 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage. About the employer

Brockhouse Nursery was established in 1992 and provides facilities for 63 children.

We have dedicated facilities to provide baby care for 18 children aged between 0 to 2 years old and a nursery school department for 45 children between 2 and 5 years old.

Brockhouse Nursery are located in a pleasant residential area close to the centre of the city and within 2 minutes walk of the city station and Clarence Park, which is used for nature walks and physical development. Brockhouse Nurserey also have a large, secure garden play area.
