Commis Chef needed for an exciting Bistro within the Mercure Brigstow hotel. With a great deal of training and development on offer the successful candidate will gain a well-rounded Commis Chef Apprenticeship with the ability to develop and progress within the brand.

With an exciting menu and an art deco twist the successful apprentice will have the full benefits of learning the trade in a fun fast environment with all the benefits of a full time employee. You will star the position by learning the basics of;

  • Salad, veg and meat prep
  • Learning Service
  • Cold section
  • Cleaning and daily kitchen maintenance
  • Health and Safety

You will then move onto the main parts of the kitchen where you will be able to really flourish. Here you will learn the key cooking techniques used in a busy industrial kitchen.

  • A passion for food and good communication are a must
  • An understanding of Food Safety and Health and Safety is an advantage but not essential

GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent are desirable but not essential.

Things to consider

From 1st of April 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage.
