    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Enjoy working with children and want to progress with it further?  An Apprentice Nursery Nurse is required to earn and learn in an excellent setting which provides a high standard of training/experience.
  • You will be working in the day care centre dealing with a variety of children, from babies and toddlers to 3 and 4 year olds.  
  • You will be trained to a high standard in all duties required of you involving keeping the children safe and enhancing their learning/play.  
  • You will be supported throughout your training and treated as a valuable member of staff.

Requirements and prospects

  • Ability to empathise with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work in a team.

Personal qualities

  • You will have to provide the employer with 2 references and pass a DBS check.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE A-Cs in Maths & English (or equivalent) preferred.

Future prospects

As long as you complete your apprenticeship to a high standard and you are reliable and hardworking you may be offered progression onto a Level 3 qualification.
