This exciting opportunity will allow you to work closely with our Lead Account Manager as well as other key members of the Commercial team, in order to learn all aspects of the sales function. As a Commercial Apprentice at L.B. Foster, you will learn all aspects of the account management function. Our Sales & Commercial team within our Track Infrastructure are the backbone of the business liaising with new and existing customers to manage the whole sales process from start to finish, ensuring that we get it right first time.

Key responsibilities that you will be involved in include (but are not limited to);

  • Quotation preparation
  • Order entry
  • Use and maintenance of the company CRM system
  • Dealing with customer enquiries regarding:
  • Deliveries Pricing Technical Quality issues
  • Payment issues. This could be either via email, telephone and possibly face-to-face, along with other staff members. Liaising with internal departments to ensure that customer needs are being met
  • Basic proactive sales training
  • General sales administration duties 
  • Scanning & filing documents electronically
  • Answering incoming calls and directing appropriately

    You will be provided with plenty of on the job training as well as on-going 1-to-1 mentoring with your line manager, our Lead Account Manager. You will learn all about our Products so that you can talk confidently to our customers when dealing with their requests. It may take some time to learn, but we will support you through this and all aspects of your training so that you feel comfortable in your role. You'll be working as part of an experienced, supportive, and knowledgeable team who will welcome you into the business with open arms.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
