  • Undertake routine maintenance activities and minor repairs (replacing taps/washers, changing bulbs, cleaning light fittings, adjusting water temperatures etc).
  • Undertake general painting/decorating/tiling tasks to an acceptable standard.
  • Be able to undertake general carpentry repairs (doors, windows, kitchens etc).
  • Participate in pre-planned maintenance checks (Fire Alarm testing, Health & Safety checks,  gutter clearing, decking staining, generator testing, fence repairs etc).
  • Assist with general manpower support (moving furniture, setting up marquees etc, assisting with charity and fundraising activities).
  • As and when required, assist with the general ground maintenance and skip area.
  • To assist in maintaining the company vehicle fleet, to check oil, water, lights, tyres etc. (Servicing and repairs contracted out).  
  • Inform the Maintenance and Building Services Manager of any site repairs outside of their capability and a specialist contractor may be required.
  • Promoting and adhering to general health & safety/fire safety policies and procedures at all times.

  • Selection criteria standard includes Maths and English understanding and functional application at Level 1, enabling apprentices to aspire to the next level.

Future prospects

Completing this apprenticeship programme with its transferable skills will enable progression into roles such as a Technical Specialist e.g. Electrical or Plumbing and Supervisory and Management roles e.g. Facilities Management, across a wide range of sectors.

Things to consider

The position will be subject to satisfactory references and Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS). Advise reviewing location and situation of train/bus. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
