As a Warehouse apprentice you will be required to work under the direct supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor to learn how to undertake a wide spectrum of work ranging from physical receipt of materials through booking in, labelling and movement to picking against shop orders, packing and delivering to production facilities. It also encompasses packing and shipment of product to contractors.

All activities are controlled through Standard Operating Procedures and falls under strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. 

Key tasks:

  • To learn the relevant procedures and processes by which stock is controlled within the Company and to understand which procedures apply in different circumstances
  • To learn how to use the stock management computerized system (IFS) used within OXB to manage stock processes
  • To support the receipt of stock from vendors, ensuring product is delivered without damage to the correct address and matches purchase order
  • To learn how stock is stored in appropriate locations (noting any special temperature or hazardous storage conditions) and to ensure stock is located in correct storage areas (Quarantine; Release; Reject)
  • To learn how to update the computer system where applicable to ensure accuracy of stock is maintained
  • To ensure accuracy of stock is maintained by being involved in performing cycle counting/stock checks
  • To ensure cleanliness, safety and security of warehouse is maintained at all times
  • To ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures at all times
  • To learn how to raise appropriate documentation including supplier complaint Forms
  • To understand how to pick stock by item, batch number and quantity as per requisition
  • To learn how to check and pack stock by item, batch number and quantity as requisition
  • To support the co-ordination of shipments of Drug Substance (other) for ongoing processing
  • To co-ordinate  clinical waste collections from sites
  • To undergo relevant training in OXB’s policies, procedures and processes as required
  • Any other duties as identified by the Warehouse Supervisor

  • Familiar with desk based/keyboard computers including Microsoft Office package including Word and Excel (training can be provided if necessary)

Qualifications required

  • You should possess GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C or above, in Mathematics and English, plus one other Science or Technology related subject

Things to consider

Oxford BioMedica is working alongside Cogent Skills to deliver this apprenticeship. The successful candidate will be employed by Cogent Skills, but will be based at the host employer Oxford BioMedica. The apprentice must be able to demonstrate the required attitudes, behaviours and interpersonal skills associated with the professional workplace. The apprentice must be willing to commit an amount of personal time to study. All applications to be made through Apprenticeship vacancies. Do not contact the employer. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
