    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Position in the Organisation:

  • The job holder reports to the Drawing Office Manager

Key measures of success:

  • Successful and timely completion of the agreed apprenticeship framework/standard
  • To fulfil the requirements of the Sales team in providing technical support to assist in winning orders
  • To meet or improve on the agreed timescales on all projects
  • Reduce and maintain low level of NNC on allocated projects
  • To maximise the quality and accuracy of drawings issued
  • To provide a continually developing and improving service
  • To improve personal performance
  • To achieve or exceed the agreed measurables

Target, time, budget:

  • Target – to ensure the full needs of the customer, as well as our Sales, Production and Contracts departments are met, with regards to provision of drawings, structural calculations and technical information
  • Time – to meet agreed timescales for the provision of drawings
  • Budget – to ensure both the Clients and Canals budgets are met

Areas of responsibility:

  • To provide technical assistance to all Company departments as required
  • To represent the company at site meetings and offer site survey assistance when required
  • To help other draughtsman in the office as and when required
  • To provide accurate designs & drawings to the requirements of the Customer and Canal Sales Office
  • To provide clear & accurate manufacturing drawings
  • To represent the Company in internal meetings as and when requested

  • To assist the Drawing Office Manager with any tasks required by the Business Plan

Training provider

  • Full on-the-job training and support will be provided to enable the successful applicant to undertake the full range of duties required of the role
  • In addition, training will also be provided towards the Apprenticeship in Engineering Level 2 through in-house delivery

The Engineering Level 2 consists of the following:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Engineering
  • Technical certificate
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy
