The successful candidates will join the newly formed DCL Academy created specifically to deliver apprenticeship schemes. Candidates will enter either the underwriting or claims department and full training will be provided to undertake the daily work tasks, examples of which are listed below:


  • Administration of Motor Fleet Policies
  • Processing of mid-term adjustments
  • Issuing policy documentation
  • Liaising with Brokers and Underwriters
  • Preparing renewal and new business documentation
  • Running the underwriting diary system


  • Post and filing duties
  • Inputting claims in to our system
  • Arranging repairs to client's vehicles
  • Liaising with clients on the phone
  • Checking indemnity
  • Replying to incoming correspondence via email

Qualifications required

Minimum of 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) and English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above.

Future prospects

Upon completion of the apprenticeship Direct Commercial will be looking to keep the apprentice full time. There will also be the potential to progress onto higher level apprenticeships.

Things to consider

All candidates undergo pre-employment screening which includes background checks of your eligibility to work in the UK, standard CRB checks and proof of your stated qualifications. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
