Heckfield Place is a luxury country house hotel that sits among 400 acres on the Hampshire / Berkshire border.

It will have 46 individually designed rooms and suites, spa that is nestled in a secluded woodland setting with panoramic views over rolling fields, and its own working farm.

We are looking for Apprentice Gardeners to join our company and be a part of the gardens team helping to prepare the magnificent grounds for the opening of luxury country house hotel in Hampshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help restore the gardens and landscape that date back over 250 years.

Our future apprentices will work alongside our experienced team of gardeners across specific areas of the estate including:

  • The ornamental garden with two walled gardens, Italian terrace and fine turf areas,
  • 5 acre vegetable garden,
  • An orchard with over 500 fruit trees,
  • Pleasure grounds with mixed woodland, parkland, lawns and two lakes.
  • Successful candidates will need to demonstrate a real energy, passion and enthusiasm for gardening.
  • Your positive ‘can-do’ attitude and your impeccable standards of grooming will put you at the forefront of our recruitment process.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Reasonable level of fitness and stamina, this is a physically demanding whole year all weather position

Qualifications required

GCSE or equivalent grade D or above Maths & English

Possibility of full time position upon completing the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

This is a physically demanding role where you will be required to work outside in all weathers Due to the lack of public transport and remote location a driving license or own transport will be necessary. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
