    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The role will involve a range of duties including gym upkeep, supervision and the promotion of gym and Fitness activity. There are opportunities to design and implement training programmes for a range of clientele, the successful applicants will also get some fantastic experience as they shadow the Health and Fitness Manger and work with the athletes in the North East Sports Academy.

The successful applicant will benefit from working in a positive and dynamic environment with colleagues who have a strong reputation both within the College and externally.

A mentor will be allocated to provide support and guidance and development activities incorporated as part of a holistic package.

The successful applicant will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends, although they will normally be working alongside other established members of staff during essentially normally working hours.

The successful applicant will have a positive and outgoing personality, who can engage with a range of customers. The ability to work in a team and to be pro-active and show initiative in supporting the fitness and sporting activities at the College are vital.
