    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Are you a good communicator, do you enjoy helping people? Then this great opportunity to join Fusion Maidstone Healthy Living Centre as a Business Administration Apprentice on a 12 months fixed term contract could be the perfect fit for you.

Your role will be based in Park Wood where you will learn to deliver excellent customer service/reception/admin duties. You will receive ongoing support and development that will equip you with the skills and knowledge required for a successful career within business administration and customer service.

If you are a successful candidate for this position, you will be trained to provide a positive and efficient service to our service users.

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Officer, provide the following duties:

  • Meet and greet all customers as they enter the centre in a welcoming and friendly manner.
  • Be a visitor’s first point of contact for the centre and direct them to the correct person, inform the relevant party e.g. staff member or service partner that they have a visitor.
  • Manage the visitors book and hand out security passes.
  • Provide information on the centre, services provided and help solve problems.
  • Talk to a wide range of customers and find the best service for their needs.
  • Deal with enquiries in person, by phone or by email.
  • Be the initial point of contact for verbal complaints.
  • Organise, set up furniture requirement and provide the meeting room with equipment/beverages as required.
  • Manage the room booking system.
  • Answer all telephone calls to the centre and direct calls to the appropriate staff member or service partner.
  • Carry out general typing and administration duties.
  • Monitor all photocopying and printing for the centre.
  • Supervise the internet café computers.
  • Book and take payment for events or services.
  • Provide support to the Deputy Chief Officer and office staff.
  • Deliver internal and external mail.

Other general duties commensurate with skill level and experience as may from time to time be allocated by the management.

Qualifications required

A*- C GCSE Grades in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications in these subjects.

Training provider

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework - consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and the Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Workbook. It may be necessary for you to complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT – subject to previous achieved grades.


Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
