    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Adhering to the Policies and Procedures of Christchurch Nursery School (Folkestone) Ltd and compliances with the Children’s Act, Health & Safety Legislation and within the guidelines and statutory requirements of Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend College and complete assignments on time
  • To attend team meetings and impute ideas when it can be organized by your line manager
  • Under supervision, provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing etc.
  • To assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children
  • To provide adult interaction with children in the nursery
  • To be aware of the nursery’s confidential policy

 

Team Work

  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team
  • To attend ALL out of work activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, children’s Christmas party, etc.
  • To input and contribute to ideas regarding implementation of policies and procedures such as Early Years Foundation Stage

General

  • Contribute to good standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all areas of the nursery
  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities within a normal nursery practitioner’s role as determined by any team member from time to time
  • The trainee’s duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the nursery’s Equal Opportunities policy
  • Look upon the nursery as a “whole” where your help could be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children
  • To respect the confidentiality of information received
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
  • To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times
  • To be aware of all emergency and fire evacuation procedures

Qualifications required

National Minimum Wage From 1st April 2017, the NMW for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. INTERVIEW We will be interviewing candidates who meet the criteria as they apply and will recruit after a successful interview which may be before the closing date. Reality Check You will be responsible for your travel expenses to and from your place of work. Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst awaiting for your first wages to be paid.

We are a fully registered Private Day Care Facility for children of all abilities. We are situated in the centre of Folkestone and have been here since 1990. We work closely with Christchurch Primary School. We are a very successful nursery and have an excellent team who works very closely together.

Training provider

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework - consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and the Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Workbook. It may be necessary for you to complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT – subject to previous achieved grades.


Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
