Reception face to face contact, answering telephone, booking appointments, dealing with queries. Answering prescription line taking requests from patients for medication and answering queries. Manning the Visit Request telephone line, taking home visits requests and dealing with general queries. Filing, photocopying, and other general office duties including scanning hospital letters to patients records. Working with the Web team and being involved in the young persons section, getting information across to young people in the format they understand which will then link into our monthly newsletter and electronic noticeboards. Being a good team player and working as part of a team is vital. Understanding the aspects of data protection and confidentiality is also highly important within this role.

A good sense of humour would also be a feature that we would be looking for.

Summary:

The medical receptionist has a special position of responsibility, dealing efficiently and courteously with patients, visitors and other members of staff. Working efficiently keeping accurate records and filing.

Confidentiality: In the course of your work you will come into contact with information about patients. Such information must not be discussed or communicated either outside of work or with others not directly concerned with the matter, including colleagues.

Data Protection Act 1998 : Disclosure or misuse of confidential information may be an offence under the Date Protection Act 1998 and may result in prosecution and will be treated as a serious disciplinary offence, which may result in dismissal.

Main Duties:

  • Make appropriate appointments within surgery and hospital appointments where necessary
  • Receiving and directing patients/visitor on arrival
  • Answer any patient/hospital queries
  • Answering prescription line and dealing with queries
  • Taking home visits requests and following processes
  • Part of the Web team giving ideas regarding the young persons section, monthly newsletter and electronic noticeboards
  • Team player
  • Scanning information into patients record
  • Changing computer relevant to patient status
  • Preparation of consulting rooms and waiting room
  • Flexibility in covering for sickness and holidays
  • General duties including filing and photocopying
  • Responsibility toward Health and Safety at Work Act

  • Responsible to carrying out duties directed by clinicians or management
  • Keeping up to speed with changes implemented within the practice

Staff uniform:

A staff uniform is provided by the practice. You are required to wear this uniform at all times including any ‘time out’ training session or training sessions organised by the practice off site.
