Have you ever imagined yourself as a really confident and organised person who’d make a great Personal Assistant to an important manager? Well, here’s your chance to do just that!


We are seeking a mature individual with excellent organisation skills to join our secretarial team that supports Warwickshire County Council’s joint managing directors. You’ll work in a busy yet friendly team of secretary’s, undertaking the following duties:

  • To manage telephone enquiries, take messages and decisions on forwarding of matters on relevant contacts and progress / chase as necessary.
  • To undertake full diary management responsibilities, liaising with relevant parties to organise meetings and schedules effectively.
  • To provide day to day support and management of e-mail and written correspondence, including filtering, handling, processing of routine enquiries, forwarding and recording to meet the requirements of the relevant line manager.
  • To provide secretarial support in relation to the production of correspondence and records, including word processing, electronic and manual filing systems, dictation, production of routine agendas and minutes of meetings etc.
  • To provide courteous, effective and efficient organisation of and support to visitors, including ensuring booking of rooms and refreshments as necessary.
  • To maximise the use of ICT in order to enhance the efficiency and quality of support and service provision, e.g. use of relevant databases and the full range of software to the level of a standard user.
  • To undertake routine financial procedures, including creation of purchase orders, authorisation of small amounts of expenditure from agreed budgets and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • To undertake personal health and safety responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To ensure that all activities are operated in accordance with equal opportunities legislation and Warwickshire County Council’s Equal Opportunities policy.

Qualifications required

  • At least 5 GCSE or equivalent grades at A – C including English and Maths.

Although permanent employment cannot be guaranteed upon completion, we recruit apprentices to be part of the future of the council. If a vacancy is unavailable in the area where you do your apprenticeship, full support will be provided to find suitable alternative employment elsewhere within the organisation.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship Pay Scale from 1 April 2017: Point 1 = £149.85 per week, £4.05 per hour, £7,813.61 per annum – initial salary for all new starters for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship Progression of pay after 12 months are complete as follows: Point 2 = £207.20 per week, £5.60 per hour, £10,804.00 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 19 - 20 Point 3 = £260.85 per week, £7.05 per hour, £13,601.46 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 21 – 24 (Fixed term salary point for higher Apprentices) Point 4 = £277.50 per week, £7.50 per hour, £14,469.64 per annum – completed 12 months and aged 25+All apprentices start at Point 1. You reach Point 2 if aged 19 or above and have completed 12 months of the apprenticeship. You reach Point 3 if aged 21 or above and have completed 12 months of the apprenticeship. You reach Point 4 if aged 25 or above and have completed 12 months of the apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is a job with an attached qualification – not a college course with attached work experience. You’ll be expected to uphold the same standards of professionalism and behaviour as all other members of staff. Full support will be provided to help you adjust to full time work. You must be able to travel to Warwick, where this role is based, and also be able to travel to other locations across the county
