We are looking to recruit a Retail Apprentice to join our retail team. On successful completion of the 12-month programme you will have gained a Retail Level 2 as well as progressed into the role of Senior Operative within MI Dickson – this is a great foundation to build on and may lead to further progression opportunities within the business.

Providing a range duties including:

  • Providing an excellent customer service to Dickson’s customers
  • Lead and motivate individual staff in your team
  • Banking management as and when required
  • Occasional admin duties: paperwork, invoicing and stock records
  • Serving and assisting customers
  • Lead and motivate individual staff in your team
  • Opening and closing the store
  • Manage store point of sale and promotions
  • Deal with deliveries and orders within the warehouse
  • Stock Control – including checking incoming stick quantity and quality
  • Deal with enquiries in the shop and via the telephone.
  • Learning product lines
  • Pricing of stock
  • Upselling of products and services
  • Estimating, pricing and follow up of quotes
  • Tidying  and keeping shop and work areas clean.

  • 28 days inclusive of bank holidays, pro-rated for part time workers.

Things to consider

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Training provider

  • Pre-employment preparation – Employment Rights and Responsibilities and customer service skills.
  • Full induction and training from the employer
  • Agreed off the job training to support you and your employer with work related training and also to prepare you for Technical Certificate and Functional Skills (if required)
  • Study and complete NVQ Level 2 in Retail Skills
  • Fortnightly visits to the workplace to assess performance

(Where possible, off the job training will take place within the first 3 months of apprenticeship programme)
