Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic young person to join our IT support team.  Their role will include supporting over 1,300 users, and helping to maintain a modern IT Network Infrastructure. 

The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in IT systems and be looking to learn and develop new skills. As an IT Apprentice at Bilton School you will have the opportunity to work with and learn about a wide range of IT systems including but not limited to:

  • Databases; Email VOIP and Communication Systems;
  • Network Architecture;
  • Microsoft Server and Active Directory;
  • Web and cloud services;
  • As well as organisational systems and principles.

Day to day tasks will include:

  • Working through help desk support requests
  • With the assistance of the Senior IT Technician and IT Manager
  • Providing face to face, and telephone
  • First line support to end users
  • Assisting in the management of the school VLE System and online services
  • Installation of new, and routine maintenance of existing, hardware and software systems; updating documentation as well as writing new documentation on school systems to cover both technical setup as well as end user guides.
  • The opportunity exists to take a leading role in the development of new school IT systems and the management of existing ones

Requirements and prospects

  • Proficient ICT skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications essential
  • Knowledge of PC and Laptop hardware

Personal qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good Initiative and willingness to learn new skills
  • Highly motivated
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team

Qualifications required

Achieved or predicted 5 GCSE’s or equivalent including English, Maths, and preferably ICT

Future prospects

Possible retention of position if qualification achieved.
