Future prospects

For an Apprentice that does well within 6 – 12 months we would also look to offer an additional qualification opportunity with our institute to gain a certificate in recruitment practice. After 6 months candidates that are showing good progress will be offered the chance to increase their salary with commission. After 12 months service candidates will have a career review with the chance to be fast tracked to a Trainee Recruitment Consultant. Long term this will lead to the opportunity to become a Recruitment Consultant and ultimately look after your own clients. Realistically this would be a 2 – 3-year commitment

Things to consider

The main challenge to the job is it takes time to learn your trade, to build up loyalty with candidates and clients and you must be willing to deal with set-backs and bounce back. A positive attitude is important while you learn the terminology and skills to be successful at recruitment consultant. You need to become connected in your market and it takes time to build up that knowledge. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). For more information visit:
