    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Sinclairs is looking for an apprentice to join its friendly and professional team.

The successful candidate will assist in the salon with:

  • Greet clients
  • Serve refreshments to clients
  • Work on reception
  • Help keep the salon tidy 
  • Assist stylists
  • Shampoo clients' hair

Ideally, candidates will enjoy working with people, will be punctual and reliable, well-presented and well mannered.

Exact days and hours will be confirmed at interview. Five full days a week including two late nights (one for training) and 9-4 on Saturday.

Future prospects

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to go onto an Advanced Apprenticeship and to become a stylist in the salon. They will also have the opportunity to receive further training with L'Oreal.

Things to consider

Two late nights per week. Working Saturdays. Hairdressing is physically hard work and you will be standing for a long time every day. Hairdressing requires some understanding of human biology and chemistry, and this will be taught during your Apprenticeship. Hairdressing is heavily customer-focused and you will be constantly interacting with people.

Training provider

All practical training will take place in the salon. Once a month, the apprentice will attend college where theory work will be taught.

The apprentice will work towards an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing, which includes a ITEC NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, as well as Functional Skills qualifications in both English and Mathematics.
