    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Gorgeous in Bekhamsted is a busy and very friendly salon looking for 2 Apprentices to join its team.

Apprentices' key duties will be:

  • Shampooing,
  • Assisting clients and fellow staff members,
  • Making refreshments,
  • Reception duties,
  • Cleaning and tidying.

Applicants should be self-motivated, reliable, friendly and able to work as part of a team. Successful candidates will want to work hard towards an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing and become outstanding hairdressers.

On top of the weekly wage, Gorgeous also pays commission on professional services and retail.

Apprentices will work 37.5 hours a week over 5 days, with no more than 8 hours in 1 day. Apprentices will also work one late night a week. Days and hours will be discussed at interview.

Future prospects

Throughout the Apprenticeship, Apprentices will be involved in competitions and photo shoots, as well as possibly having the chance to attend courses with L'Oreal, Redken and Kerastase.

Things to consider

Hairdressing is not always a straightforward 9-to-5 job. Apprentices should expect to work one late night per week and they should expect to work Saturdays.

Training provider

All practical training will take place in the salon. Once a month, Apprentices will attend college where theory will be taught. Apprentices will work towards an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing, which includes an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing and, if necessary, Functional Skills qualifications in English and Mathematics.
