    5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays. This will include Christmas and New Year. Some early starts at 07.00 would be expected and evening work would be part of the working week in all departments except Housekeeping.

The first four months with cover Bar, Restaurant, Bars, Housekeeping , reception, events and guest services. In January the apprentice and mentor will agree on one department to specialise in for the remainder of the 12 months. At the end of which the apprentice should be in the position to become a full time member of the chosen department.

Duties in each department will include:

  • Housekeeping

Cleaning and preparing rooms including special requests for flowers etc

Ensuring front of house areas are well presented at all times

Checking the rooms that have been cleaned by other members of staff and advising reception that they are ready

Counting laundry to ensure a good stock level in maintained

  • Restaurant and Bars

Prepare bars and restaurants ready for service including laying up buffets and special table requests

Serve customers with meals and drinks in a timely and professional manor

Work with the kitchen to ensure customer requests for special diets are met

  • Guest Services

Lay up conference rooms to ensure customers requests are being met

Ensure all refreshments are served at the right time

Help guests with luggage

Carry out room service orders

  • Reception

Welcome guests to the hotel and carry out registrations with a good level of customer service

Check all special requests for guests are in the room ready for arrival

Prepare room bills and check people out in a very pleasant way

Handle cash securely and produce daily bankings

 

 

 

 


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Understanding of the meaning of hospitality and how being a member of a hotel team can help the guests enjoyment of the hotel.

People skills and computer literate

Personal qualities

Enthusiastic, team player, adaptable, good problem solver, smart, good timekeeper  and a willingness to help others.

Qualifications required

GCSE English and Math’s A-C or equivalent.

Future prospects

At the end of 12 months the person will be a full time member of the department and should expect to become a supervisor within the department within another 12 months.

Things to consider

The hotel business is a seven day a week operation which will entail working weekends, some late nights and early mornings. Means of getting to Sandbanks is essential as public transport is limited within the winter months Most positions require a direct interaction between staff and guests with the challenges that his may bring.

Training provider

The position is entirely job based with continual on the job assessments, during the year there will be an opportunity to get qualifications from in house training courses for First Aid , Health and Safety, Allergens, fire marshal etc.
