    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Working week

    Level 2 apprentices will have alternative weeks of 4 days at nursery and 1 day at college then full week at work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Level 3 apprentices will be working full time at the nursery and attending college 1 Saturday a month.

This vacancy is advertised by the Training Trust on behalf of Tamba. You will attend the Training Trust one day per week for your college work.

  • Providing a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the babies and children placed in our setting
  • Working alongside parents/carers as well as the room leader
  • As an Apprentice, you would be expected to diligently attend your training course, completing assessments and examinations in order to achieve the required standard in your studies and assessments
  • You will be planning and setting up activities for the children

Qualifications required

  • Good Maths and English (you will be required to re-sit GCSEs to gain grade C or above (or equivalent) if not previously obtained in order to become a fully qualified level 3 practitioner)
  • Previous experience desirable (for level 2 application) though not essential

Future prospects

For level 2 apprentices, possibility of a permanent position at the end of the apprenticeship and career progression within the nursery, to progress to level 3 supervisor position. For level 3 apprentices, this will be a position of responsibility with the possibility of progression onto further management.

Things to consider

16-18 year old are fully funded by the government for an apprenticeship. Progression onto level 3 will require grade C or above in Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) so must be willing to re-sit exams if required. It would be beneficial for candidates to have read our website and parental prospectus to gain an insight into our ethos and values. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
