Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A prestigious Salon in Coventry - Windmill Village is looking for somebody who is enthusiastic and passionate about starting a career in beauty to join their friendly and experienced team! This will be a part time position working up to 30 hours per week, however hours of work will be discussed at interview stage. Hours are likely to involve working at least one late evening and Saturdays are essential.

Typical daily tasks of an apprentice will include:

  • Cleaning and tidying salon
  • Greeting clients
  • Making drinks
  • Facial treatments
  • Manicure and pedicures

Once a certain level of skill and understanding has been gained the tasks will gradually increase to things such as body massage, epilation etc.

As part of your working week you will receive training from the assessors at Heart of England training centre to work towards NVQ level 3 in Beauty Therapy

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Confident with good communication skills
  • Able to speak fluent English.
  • Maths would be advantageous but not essential as this can also be taught. You should be smart, presentable, with a good attitude to work and time keeping

  • Professional
  • Smart and well presented
  • Hardworking and able to work under pressure

Qualifications required

Candidate needs to be:

  • Fluent in speaking English
  • Able to read and write in English
  • Maths qualification would be an advantage but not essential as training will be given

Future prospects

On successful completion of NVQ level 3 beauty therapy, there may be the opportunity to progress with Windmill Village with the opportunity to progress to management for the right candidate.

Things to consider

Please note, only candidates who are currently Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualified who are looking to progress on to Level 3 will be considered for this vacancy. Applicants must have a realistic idea of what it is like to work as an apprentice in the beauty industry and must be willing to help out with the less glamorous tasks such as cleaning! Please be aware that when working as a beauty therapy apprentice part of your daily jobs will be to clean and tidy the salon. There will be some long periods of standing. Applicants also need to ensure that they are willing to work Saturdays and at least one late evening before applying for the position as this is a requirement when working in the beauty industry.

NVQ level 3 Beauty Therapy will include units such as; health and safety, effectiveness at work, providing electrical facial and body treatments, body massage, epilation treatments along with a number of optional units which will be discussed on your first visit with the assessor.
