As part of your Apprenticeship you will be involved in all details of the section within the kitchen including:

  • Bread.
  • Pastry.
  • Some butchery.
  • Preparations of all sections.

The working environment is friendly with obvious load points at service. You will work with people who are hardworking and have a common goal.

Accommodation:

  • You will have your own bedroom with a shared bathroom. You will be required to pay a weekly amount for food, lodgings, washing etc
  • Support is available with uniform and equipment
  • You will have use of a Leisure Club with free wifi access, 2 miles down the road

Wages:

  • Under 21 years £6.00 per hour
  • Over 21 years £7.00 per hour
  • Wage increases reviewed

Qualifications required

  • There are no formal entry requirements for this position, but candidates must have a keen interest in food preparation and the hospitality industry. 

Future prospects

To be more involved with the day to day running of the kitchen, to learn about margins, buying (market runs to Manchester) and control of sections within the kitchen, with a permanent position.

Things to consider

The hotel is situated in a valley with a daily bus service, but it is 6 miles from Ambleside so a little remote but a good place to be able to save some money. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
